The municipality of Trysil

“Trysil-Knut” Ski Museum and experience centre

The municipality of Trysil wanted help with the development of a different kind of ski museum. The municipality had its own premises, exhibits and other objects, and was responsible for developing the texts. But help was needed in communicating the concept, interaction, design and production of multimedia solutions. The ski museum wanted to tell the stories about Trysil’s many skiing heroes, and at the same time involve the visitor and create new experiences and stories.

Expology’s solution was based on stretching the boundaries - showing the stages of putting the skis for the very first time, reaching the finish line, jumping over the ski jump, the victory podium, and celebration. The tales of the heroes are coupled with the visitors’ own experiences and relationship with skiing. In addition to the chance to immerse oneself in the story, we created a space for social and participation exhibits. Here, the visitors are able to listen to historic radio clips and then have a go at being a radio commentator themselves. Visitors can read about ski jumpers such as Johann Saetre and Ingrid Olsdatter Vestby, or they can experience what it feels like to jump from the Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo - the same jump where the Norwegian national team trains. The combination of Expology’s well tested LearningLab platform for content and specially-developed solutions for projections and result monitoring has led to an experience centre which is both cost-effective and unique.

“Trysil municipality is responsible for the planning and commissioning of the Trysil-Knut ski museum and experience centre in Trysil. We are extremely pleased with the work Expology AS has done for us. Expology is responsible for the design and development of the exhibitions and production of the media-based installations. Together we have created, perhaps the most modern museum in Norway with very positive feedback from the visitors and contributors. Here we exhibit everything from the early history of skiing in Trysil to the great career of Bjørn Daehlie, presented in a unique and contemporary way.”
