Oslo 1000 years

Oslo’s millenium celebration

Oslo city council sought external help in order to shape the overall concept for the city’s celebration. Expology worked closely with “Oslo 1000 years” to develop a concept for the celebration. This consisted of more than 50 brainstorming sessions with representatives from, inter alia, the local districts, voluntary organisations, sports clubs, and cultural institutions. During the planning and implementation, of the large arrangements, we collaborated with a large number of government departments and local organisations.

In the run up to the jubilee, Expology developed the client concept for the year’s themed stages, the content for all of the events, symbols and slogans, including the lasting impression: The jubilee year should remind everyone that Oslo is the city of opportunity, and the concept “The city which makes its mark”. Oslo’s pulse pervaded every aspect of the jubilee. Different themed stages, enormous and central public events, small local events, niche arrangements and importantly: the strong presence of a large number of local forces. The tiger became a strong visual symbol for the capital city.

Media coverage throughout the year, a high profile in the streets, increased awareness amongst the citizens, the introduction of a number of new events which have since become annual events. A strong feeling amongst the majority about a continuing celebration. The jubilee achieved its goal with more than 60% of the population taking part in the celebrations.
