The Swedish Parliament The democratic workshop As a move towards creating political involvement and an understanding of the law making process, the Swedish Parliament wanted to improve its information and educational facilities with an interactive visitor centre aimed at school children. In an educational and engaging learning environment created in the form of a miniature parliament - with party offices and committee meetings - pupils are given an insight into the work of the parliament and what it is like to be an MP in the Swedish parliament. The pupils take standpoints on two private bills and go through the various stages in the process right through to the debate and voting. The pupils are able to test their ability to arrive at a standpoint, to form coalitions and to express their opinions to others. Everything is in modern language and communicated in a way that involves the pupil and stimulates learning. |
