Piste Media Centre

Sanamat Corp., Finland’s largest newspaper organisation, decided to relocate three newspapers; Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta Sanomat and Taloussanomat to one building in Helsinki. They wanted to establish a joint visitor centre in the new media building, in order to strengthen their position with school students, and contribute to the reinforcement of the relationships between the newspapers.

In order to create a realistic, challenging and interesting game, Expology and the journalists from the three newspapers developed a tailor-made game. The interactive role play places students in situations where they have to make choices which increase their understanding of the different values of journalists and the newspapers. In a two hour long role play, the students are set to work using 10 interactive terminals with internet, video and telephone interfaces. A multimedia wireless telephone system delivers the dynamic and the drama of the programme.

Since its opening in 2000, Piste Media Centre has been fully booked and, equally importantly it has contributed to binding the three newspapers closer together.
